Places Using Unlimited Ranked Choice Voting Gave Trump 24% Median Vote

On the Ranked-Choice Voting Resource Center, we found 43 localities that used unlimited ranked choice voting - that is no limit was placed on the number of candidates a voter could be asked to rank. We then looked up the 2020 Presidential election on the New York Times “Extremely Detailed Map of the 2020 election.”

By contrast, places supporting the limited use of ranked ballots, including Republican Southern States that used ranked ballots for military overseas, while the two states voting for a system that never asks a voter to rank more than 5 candidates (Nevada and Alaska) gave Trump 48% and 53% of their vote.
